ALL ABOUT & BACKGROUND of..

It started one Christmas..
                                                 .


You know; cold, crisp, no snow; a typical English Christmas. Matthew was given a recipe book of Dog Treats by Valerie. They were from the cousins across the pond, and reflected the cousins taste, sort of a bit too much Peanut Butter, and with Jelly. We decided we could do better. So after the Christmas morning walk with our tasters-to-be, two Bouviers, (pic here), we decided to explore the world of dog treats. And so it began...

 And so we looked for other recipes. And we looked at the available treats. And we looked at dog food, and we looked at pet foods in general.

 And we really didn't like what we found...

I mean really really didn't like it. Didn't like the stuff that went into the biscuits, didn't like only knowing half of what went into the biscuits, didn't like knowing what did go into the biscuits.

 For instance: "EU permitted preservatives" includes chemicals banned in the USA for causing cancers.

 So we researched, baked, fed, researched, baked, fed, and then did it all over again. And we concentrated on Health, on Nutrition, on Goodness.

 We took no short cuts...

and we made sacrifices; huh! We sacrificed using artificial additives. We sacrificed using synthetic preservatives. We sacrificed using unnatural ingredients. We were happy doing this.

 And we developed treats that were tasty, natural and did good stuff; although our tasters sniffed in our general direction, (see pic), if we were too goody goody about it.

 And we did it all over again  until our dogs loved the treats, our friends' dogs loved the treats, and our friends' friends' dogs loved the treats.

 When the friends' friends' friends'...

(gasp for breath) friends'dogs asked for more we had the "lightbulb moment" ..start a bakery/barkery.

 So we chucked in the London jobs, and started The Dawg's Biscuits  (with an interval to talk to Vets, Nutritionists, Bio-chemists, Homeopathic vets to make sure we had it right; we had it right), .....And here we are.

DAWG TODAY

Today Dawg's is still based at Dawg Central...

St Leonards on Sea with the original shop and the test bakery. The main baking facility is on the North Wales and Cheshire borders, in a modern, fully accredited, dedicated bakery.

The directors and founders, Matthew and Valerie May, have been joined by Mark Husband, who has extensive expertise in the petfood sector. Mark has joined in a supervisory/mentor role to guide the growth of the business.

The wholesale side of Dawgs, (Dawgsbix Ltd), is growing with new shops stocking the Dawganic range every week. The variety of shops still reflects the health base of The Dawg's Biscuits: pet shops, health food shops, organic food shops, vets and homepathic vets. Dawgs is also stocked by groomers, dog carers and several ecommerce operations.

Growth has been steady, but Dawgs aims to keep an organic rate of growth: growing without compromise, without moving from the reasons Dawg was started, which was and remains to make the very best, health positive, tasty dog treats. In the universe.

Dawgs: It's a health thing. And fun.

 

 

  P.S. With our advisers we have a total of about 70 years dealing with pet food, but enthusiasm for a great healthy treat will always trump "how it has always been done" for Dawg.

Also: The Dawg is just called Dawg.
